# Travel Industry Learning FAQs

---

Whether you want a quick introduction, a concise overview or a complete foundation in how the global travel industry works, TREX gives you a place to start.

These frequently asked questions explain the differences between TREX's free learning, **Travel Industry Fundamentals (US$75)** and **TREX Travel Industry 101 (US$500)** — including what each option covers, who it is for, how access works and what you receive.

---

### **Choosing the right learning option...**

What travel industry learning does TREX offer?

TREX offers three ways to begin building travel industry knowledge: selected free learning, the US$75 Travel Industry Fundamentals course, and the complete US$500 TREX Travel Industry 101 programme. Each offers a different level of depth, commitment and recognition.

What is the difference between the free, US$75 and US$500 options?

Free TREX learning lets you explore selected topics and experience the TREX approach. Travel Industry Fundamentals gives you the bigger picture in approximately 20–25 minutes. Travel Industry 101 provides a structured, 26-module education in how the global travel industry works end-to-end.

Which TREX course should I take first?

Choose according to the depth you need. Start with free learning if you want to explore without making a purchase. Choose Travel Industry Fundamentals if you want a concise overview. Choose Travel Industry 101 if you want a comprehensive foundation and a recognised record of completion.

Do I need to complete the free learning before taking Fundamentals?

No. Free learning is optional. You can begin with Travel Industry Fundamentals or go directly to Travel Industry 101.

Do I need to complete Travel Industry Fundamentals before taking Travel Industry 101?

No. Fundamentals is not a prerequisite. It is a shorter introduction for people who are not yet ready to commit to the complete Travel Industry 101 programme.

Can I go directly to Travel Industry 101?

Yes. If you already know that you want a broad, structured understanding of the industry, you can enrol directly in Travel Industry 101.

I already work in travel. Which option is right for me?

If you want a quick view beyond your own part of the industry, Fundamentals may be enough to start. If you want to identify and fill knowledge gaps across suppliers, buyers, intermediaries, distribution, technology, pricing, and other parts of the ecosystem, Travel Industry 101 offers much greater depth.

I am considering a career in travel. Where should I begin?

Free learning or Travel Industry Fundamentals can help you decide whether you want to explore the industry further. Travel Industry 101 is the stronger choice when you want to build knowledge that can support conversations, interviews, onboarding, and career development across many travel sectors.

Can TREX help me choose the right option?

Yes. If you are uncertain which learning option best fits your needs, contact TREX at support@trex3.com.

### **About TREX's free travel industry learning...**

What is included in TREX's free learning?

TREX periodically makes selected introductory modules and learning resources available at no charge. Each free learning page explains the topic, format and what is included.

Is the free learning really free?

Yes. There is no course fee for learning clearly identified by TREX as free.

Why does TREX offer free learning?

Free learning makes useful travel industry knowledge more accessible and allows you to experience TREX's learning style before deciding whether a paid course is right for you.

Who is the free learning for?

It is for anyone curious about the travel industry, including students, career changers, new industry employees, experienced professionals and people who work with travel companies from an adjacent sector.

Do I need previous travel industry knowledge?

No. Unless a specific module says otherwise, TREX's free introductory learning is designed to be understood without previous industry knowledge.

Does free learning include an assessment, badge, or certificate?

Not normally. Free learning is designed for exploration rather than formal recognition. If a particular free course includes an assessment, badge or certificate, this will be stated on its registration page.

How long will I have access to free learning?

The access period may vary by module or resource. The applicable access period will be shown when you register.

Will completing free learning reduce the price of a paid course?

Not unless a specific offer says so. The US$100 progression credit described below is included with the paid Travel Industry Fundamentals course.

Can I take more than one free module?

Yes, where more than one free learning experience is available. You may choose the topics most relevant to you.

### **About Travel Industry Fundamentals (US$75)...**

What is Travel Industry Fundamentals?

Travel Industry Fundamentals is a concise online introduction to the travel industry. In approximately 20–25 minutes, it helps you see what travel is, who makes it possible, how travel is sold and connected, how the industry makes money, and where different careers can fit.

How much does Travel Industry Fundamentals cost?

Travel Industry Fundamentals costs US$75 for an individual learner.

How long does Travel Industry Fundamentals take?

Most learners should allow approximately 20–25 minutes. You can learn at your own pace and return during your access period.

How long can I access Travel Industry Fundamentals?

You receive 90 days' access.

What will I learn in Travel Industry Fundamentals?

You will explore the purposes and types of travel, the organisations that make travel possible, the role of suppliers and intermediaries, the routes through which travel is sold, the effect of perishable inventory on pricing and revenue, and the breadth of careers across the industry.

Does Fundamentals cover leisure and business travel?

Yes. It introduces leisure, business and blended travel, as well as individual and group travel, to show the range of journeys and needs within the industry.

Does Fundamentals explain how travel companies make money?

Yes. It introduces perishable inventory, demand, seasonality, pricing, revenue management and several ways in which travel organisations generate revenue.

Is Travel Industry Fundamentals a sample of Travel Industry 101?

It reflects the same independent, contextual approach, but it is a distinct introductory learning experience rather than simply a trial or extract. Travel Industry 101 explores the industry in substantially greater breadth and depth.

Are there quizzes in Travel Industry Fundamentals?

There are short knowledge checks to help reinforce important ideas. They are not formal tests or graded assessments.

Do I need to pass Travel Industry Fundamentals?

No. Fundamentals has no pass-or-fail requirement.

Will I receive a badge or certificate for Fundamentals?

No. Travel Industry Fundamentals does not include a badge or completion certificate.

What do I receive with Travel Industry Fundamentals?

You receive the online learning experience, short knowledge checks, a downloadable reference guide, and 90 days' access.

Who should take Travel Industry Fundamentals?

It is designed for students and graduates, career changers, people starting their first travel role, professionals who want broader industry context, experienced specialists who want to look beyond their own sector, and anyone who wants to experience TREX before taking Travel Industry 101.

What happens after I complete Fundamentals?

You can stop with a clearer overview of the industry or continue into Travel Industry 101 for a deeper, structured education. If you decide to continue, you can activate a US$100 credit towards Travel Industry 101 within 30 days of completing Fundamentals.

How does the US$100 Travel Industry 101 credit work?

After completing Travel Industry Fundamentals, you will receive instructions for activating a US$100 credit towards the US$500 Travel Industry 101 programme. The credit must be activated within 30 days of completing Fundamentals.

Does the credit mean I pay US$400 for Travel Industry 101?

Yes. When a valid US$100 credit is applied to the standard US$500 individual price, the remaining course price is US$400.

Why is the progression credit worth more than the price of Fundamentals?

TREX wants learners who begin with Fundamentals to be able to continue building their knowledge. The credit recognises that first step and makes progressing to the complete programme more accessible.

### **About TREX Travel Industry 101 (US$500)...**

What is TREX Travel Industry 101?

TREX Travel Industry 101 is a 26-module, self-paced online programme designed to build broad fluency in how the global travel industry works. It explains the organisations, relationships, technologies, commercial models and concepts that connect the travel ecosystem.

How much does Travel Industry 101 cost?

The standard individual price is US$500. Team pricing and licensing options are available for organisations.

What is included in the US$500 price?

You receive access to 26 interactive modules, four short multiple-choice assessments, four TREX badges, a course completion certificate and 12 months' access to the programme.

How many modules are in Travel Industry 101?

Travel Industry 101 contains 26 modules structured across four major areas of industry learning.

What topics does Travel Industry 101 cover?

The programme explores types and purposes of travel; suppliers, buyers and intermediaries; leisure, corporate and group travel; agencies and Travel Management Companies; distribution and Global Distribution Systems; applications and technologies; commercial models, inventory, pricing and revenue; loyalty; regulation; and the wider operating environment.

Does Travel Industry 101 teach the whole global travel industry?

It provides a broad, connected foundation across the industry. No single introductory programme can cover every organisation, market, rule or specialist role, but Travel Industry 101 helps you understand the principal parts of the ecosystem, how they relate and where to continue learning.

How long does Travel Industry 101 take to complete?

Completion time varies because the programme is self-paced and modules differ in length. Individual modules are designed to be completed in manageable sessions, so you can progress around work and other commitments.

How long can I access Travel Industry 101?

You receive 12 months' access from enrolment. During that period, you can revisit completed content and refresh your knowledge.

Who is Travel Industry 101 for?

It is for people entering travel, early-career professionals, experienced employees filling knowledge gaps, people changing sectors or functions, travel sellers and suppliers, corporate travel professionals, technology teams, adjacent professional advisers, investors, and anyone who needs to understand how the industry fits together.

Is Travel Industry 101 only for travel agents?

No. The program covers the wider travel ecosystem and is relevant across airlines, accommodation, ground transportation, travel agencies, Travel Management Companies, online platforms, technology, corporate travel, sales, operations, partnerships, account management, finance, and other functions.

Is Travel Industry 101 only for people new to travel?

No. Newcomers gain a structured foundation, while experienced professionals can fill gaps created by spending much of their career in one sector, function or organisation.

Is Travel Industry 101 relevant outside North America?

Yes. The programme has a global perspective and is not built around one country, employer or market.

Will Travel Industry 101 teach me how to become a travel agent?

No. It is industry education, not training for a specific occupation. It will help you understand where travel agencies fit and how they interact with other parts of the ecosystem, but it will not teach sales techniques, booking procedures or the operating standards of a particular agency.

Will it teach me how to use a Global Distribution System?

No. Travel Industry 101 explains what Global Distribution Systems are, why they exist and where they fit within travel distribution. It does not provide system-specific command or booking training.

Will it train me for a particular employer or job?

No. Employers remain responsible for teaching their products, processes, systems, service standards and role-specific skills. TREX provides the wider industry context that helps that specialised training make more sense.

Is Travel Industry 101 an onboarding course?

It can form part of onboarding by giving employees a consistent industry foundation, but it does not replace company-specific onboarding, compliance training or role instruction.

What does “travel industry fluency” mean?

Travel industry fluency means having enough connected knowledge to understand common terminology, follow industry conversations, recognise the roles and incentives of different organisations, and see where your own work fits within the wider ecosystem.

What does TREX mean by “minus one to zero” learning?

It describes the foundation that often needs to come before specialist or employer-led learning. Travel Industry 101 brings fragmented or assumed knowledge to a shared baseline so learners are better prepared to decide what they need to learn next.

What will change after I complete Travel Industry 101?

You should be better able to follow industry conversations, understand terminology in context, connect systems and processes, recognise why organisations make different commercial decisions and identify your own knowledge gaps. It builds understanding and confidence, not a promise of a particular job or business result.

When do I receive the course certificate?

You receive the Travel Industry 101 completion certificate after successfully completing all four stages of the programme.

Is the Travel Industry 101 certificate a professional licence or regulated qualification?

No. It is a TREX certificate confirming successful completion of the programme. It is not a government licence, university degree or regulated occupational qualification.

Can I add my TREX badge or certificate to LinkedIn?

Yes. You can use your TREX learning credential to show that you have completed the relevant stage or full programme.

The programme was developed using the knowledge and experience of travel industry professionals and subject-matter contributors, supported by peer review.

Was Travel Industry 101 generated by artificial intelligence?

Is the course sponsored by a travel company?

No. TREX separates education from promotion. The programme is not designed to teach the industry through the commercial viewpoint of one supplier, technology provider, employer or sponsor.

Does TREX promote particular travel brands or products?

No. Companies or products may be referenced where they help explain the industry, but the learning is designed to provide context rather than endorse a particular brand.

What are TREX's learning principles?

Does the course present only one country's perspective?

No. Travel Industry 101 is designed for a global audience. Where practices differ between markets, the aim is to explain the wider principle rather than imply that one country's model applies everywhere.

Does completing a TREX course guarantee employment or promotion?

No. TREX learning can strengthen knowledge, context and confidence, but employment, promotion and performance depend on many factors beyond course completion.
